Improving Comfort

Classic Denver brick houses are great, but they can have comfort issues due to their poor insulation. This house had a conventional central gas furnace and hot water heater. There was a single AC unit in the upstairs bedroom, but the rest of the home, including the guest bedroom, was extremely hot in the summer. Due to the heat, humidity in the upstairs bathroom was also a struggle.

Helio insulated and air sealed the attic. We removed the AC unit, the furnace, and hot water heater. We replaced them with a Mitsubishi Hyper Heat cold climate heat pump and an AO Smith Heat Pump Hot Water Heater. This new technology features a vacation mode and connects to the utility which will help respond to energy needs in a way that reduces use during peak hours. We also added a Panasonic Whisper Green bath fan, and a solar system to their roof to power it all.

In the end the home had AC throughout the house, and the owners enjoyed better-distributed temperatures in their home thanks to the new insulation and the heat pumps. The bath fan took care of their humidity and air quality issues.
