Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) and Helio Home have agreed to a three-year partnership as part of the Healthy Homes Program to improve indoor air quality and electrify 100 low-income single-family homes in the Denver area.

DENVER, Jan. 26th, 2023 - Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) and Helio Home have agreed to a three-year partnership as part of the Healthy Homes Program to electrify 100 low-income single-family homes in the Denver area.

Through the Denver Healthy Homes Program, EOC and Helio Home will reduce greenhouse gas emissions for income-qualified homes, improve indoor air quality, and reduce exposure to pollutants for those living with chronic respiratory and health conditions. These home improvements will provide significant benefits for residents which include stabilizing long-term costs for tenants and homeowners, providing climate resiliency, creating local jobs, training the workforce on heat pump technology, savings on energy bills, and providing an understanding of the safety benefits of electrifying a home.

Work will focus on building envelope improvements, ventilation systems for improved indoor air quality, heat pump water heaters, and electric heat pump heating and cooling systems specifically designed for cold climate performance.

This program aligns with Denver's climate plans to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 by touching on many of Denver's climate and equity priorities and strategies. The program goes beyond cutting climate-warming emissions by replacing stoves and furnaces. Rather, it will remove significant sources of indoor air pollution that increase health risks of lower-income residents.

The program also aims to measure public health impacts by conducting indoor air quality tests and resident health surveys before and after building improvements.

“The goal is to improve indoor air quality and remove unsafe indoor air pollutants, making sure  homes are healthier and more comfortable, “ said Ashley Feiertag, the Director of Residential Programs at Energy Outreach Colorado.

"Helio Home is committed to addressing the climate crisis through electrification in an equitable manner," said Helio’s CEO and co-founder Eric Reinhardt. "Everyone can benefit from a healthier, more efficient, all-electric home. This partnership ensures that those benefits extend beyond those who can easily afford it.”

Interested income-qualified single-family residents or homeowners in the City and County of Denver can learn more by calling 303.226.5065 or emailing healthyhomes@energyoutreach.org. An EOC staff member will be available to help you apply over the phone Monday - Thursday, 9 am- 5 pm.
